Beginning Band Instrument Display is rescheduled. It is moving to Thursday, August 19th, 5:00-7:00 pm @ EMS
The staff at JCNEMS has been busy getting ready to meet students for the first day of school on Tuesday! 💚
To mask, or not to mask, that is the question.... The federal order stating all bus riders (including school buses) will be followed at Jefferson County North Schools. Please have your student ready to wear a mask on all school transportation. JCN will continue with masks "optional" in buildings. Looking forward to seeing students back soon!
Freshman iPad Orientation Thursday evening 6:30* at the High School
It is very important and each Freshman taking an iPad home have “their own” AppleID that can be entered into the iPad. This gives us the ability to find a “lost” iPad, and has proven its value many times over the years.
I have saved the instructions (Creating an AppleID 2021) on the web site, but please understand that the process changes subtly, so there may be some differences in the process.

Please try to have an AppleID and Password (that you will be giving to our office personnel) Thursday night. If you “think” you know it, please log into Manage My AppleID and make sure it’s correct.
We’ll see you Thursday night!
*NOTE THE TIME. I know you may have seen an assortment of times for this meeting. It is at 6:30PM at the High School.
We appreciate your great work at enrolling students!
As we are reviewing enrollment entries, we have noticed some families may have missed a step or two.
Please ensure you have enrolled each of your children by selecting on them separately within Powerschool. Some families have updated one child but not other family members. Also, we’ve noticed some of you have paid fees but missed logging in to Powerschool and completing the updates or necessary documents.
As always, if you have any questions don’t hesitate to call the school offices today and they will guide you through the online enrollment process.
Also, please be sure to pay enrollment fees – either by Revtrack online, or in person at the EMS or HS Offices.
As a reminder – with your ID and Password used to enroll in Powerschool, we encourage you to log in and check your MS and/or HS child’s progress regularly throughout the school year.
We appreciate you and are excited to see your children again soon. Thank you for helping us start the year as smoothly as possible with completing the enrollment information!
Enrollment Day is here! Thank you for completing enrollment today if you have not already.
Even though all children will be able to eat free during the 2021-22 school year, the Household Economic Survey (HES) generates additional funding for our local educational programs.
We encourage all families to consider, review, and complete the HES application. Eligibility determination will be made according to the established guidelines, and if your family qualifies the district will receive the funds accordingly.
If families do not complete the application, state funding for our school district will be reduced.
The HES application is attached to our online enrollment for your convenience and consideration. Please feel free to contact our district’s office at 913-774-2000 with any questions.
You can submit the Household Economic Survey application by mail, email or return it in person at your child’s school. If you decide to send your documents by mail or email, please send them to the address below:

Thank you for your consideration of this important process.
The 2021-22 school year is just around the corner! I was hoping this would be a "calmer" start to the year but listening to the news, I realize there are unknowns creeping in again. Please know we are "staying tuned" and will keep you advised but as of this moment in time, we are heading back to school in as typical of fashion as possible (refer to our website under News for more COVID Procedures information). Also on the website, see Parent Resources-School Calendar Pages, you will find a "preview" of our school calendar. It is currently at the printer and we will have printed calendars for you at our back to school events! Last for this note, Online Enrollment is open! You should be receiving letters from our school offices explaining the procedures or you may also refer to our website see Parent Resources -2021-22 Enrollment.
The following message is from Mr. McFarland....
JCNHS students (grades 9-12) : Don’t forget to check your school email for instructions on choosing your classes. This is still a relatively new process for all of us, but the instructions will help you through the process. Please don’t hesitate to contact Mr. McFarland if you have questions about the process or for your PowerSchool sign-on information.
Joyful Hearts with Helping Hands will be holding their 5th annual book bag and school supply giveaway. See flyer below for details.
Final Day of Camp. Fun group of Chargers!!
Day 2 of camp in books. Had to end camp with a game of campers and coaches (HS Girls BB players) knockout.
Day 1 of our Charger youth basketball camp in the books. Kids worked hard. It was fun to have camp again after not having it last year.
With enrollment (August 3rd) just around the corner, you may be looking for outings for your family to enjoy the last few weeks of summer. There is a new program called Sunflower Summer combining federal COVID funding and many attractions in Kansas making it possible for family members to attend free of charge! Please check out the sunflowersummer.org for more information.
Jefferson Medical Clinic is offering free sports physicals to students who might need them. Please see attached flyer.
Thank you Shawn Larson Gigstad and Trooper Don Hughes for talking to our drivers education class today. Very Informative.
JCN HS students are going to state track on Saturday, May 29th, Wichita, KS. There are 14 boys and 14 girls headed to state, traveling down on Friday. They will be departing the high school at 10:00am with a small send off starting @9:30-9:45ish. Saturday will be a full day of events starting at 8:00am and the last events scheduled at 7:22pm. Mark your calendar to stop at the high school (north side, kitchen door) or the elementary school (west side, kitchen door) between 11:00-noon on Tuesday, June 1st, to pick up free meals (breakfasts and lunches) for your children next week. Four days of meals will be distributed on Tuesday for the first week of June. Enjoy!
The last week of school the primary wing had a color war between classes. What a wonderful rainbow they created! 🌈
EMS Dismissal at 12:45 today. Happy Last Day of the School Year 🤩!
SUMMER FREE MEALS -
The National Child Nutrition Program has extended free meals for children through next school year. In June, Jefferson County North will once again be providing students age 1 - 18 (including all HS seniors) with free meals. As we did last summer, you will be able to pick up meals for your children at either building. The school lunch ladies will pack two days of meals for Monday pick up and three days of meals for Wednesday pick up. Since the first week will be Memorial Weekend, meals will distributed on Tuesday for the entire week. Please mark your calendars and plan to pick up breakfasts and lunches for your students during June. The dates for meal distribution are the following: June 1, 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23, 28, and 30. Distribution will be 11:00 a.m. - noon at the EMS in Nortonville or HS in Winchester, serving from the kitchen doors at both buildings.
