Press Release to Announce Superintendent Selection Jefferson County North USD 339 Names New Superintendent The USD 339 Board of Education has announced the selection of Dr. Brad Kempf, as the new superintendent. Dr. Brad Kempf will take the reins on July 1, 2022 after the retirement of Mrs. Denise Jennings at the end of the 2021-2022 school year. Dr. Brad Kempf was born and raised in Louisville, KY, and have been a Kansas resident since 2008. Since living in Kansas, he has enjoyed living in both Kansas rural and city settings and working with great communities. He is passionate about advocating for all Kansas students and public schools' needs at the State level. Dr. Kempf has been in education for seventeen years and currently serves as the Interim Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources in Emporia USD 253. Prior to this, he served as West Middle School Principal in Lawrence USD 497 for five years, Emporia Middle School Associate Principal/Assistant District Athletic Director for four years. He also served as a PK-12 principal in White City in the Rural Vista District USD 481. His teaching experience includes roles as a high school teacher and coach in Tonganoxie, KS and Ft. Knox, KY. Prior to his career in education, he proudly served in the U.S. Army. Dr. Kempf holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education, History from Missouri State University, a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Missouri, another Master’s Degree in School Leadership from Baker University, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Baker University.

Kindergarten celebrated 100th days of school today. They had fun doing 100 exercises with Jack Hartman, wearing 100 day crowns, stringing 100 Fruit Loop necklaces, and making their own snacks with 10 pieces of 10 different items.

Night one of the JCN Girls Tournament is over with a win from Rossville and Valley Falls. Tonight NE Kansas plays Perry (6:00) and JCN plays Oskaloosa (7:30).

The JCN Girls Mid-Season Tournament begins tonight. Games are on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Your JCN Girls will play on Tuesday (7:30), Friday (7:30) and Saturday (TBA). Good luck girls. The boys will have a home game against ACCHS on Thursday; JV-6:00 and Varsity @7:00. All games will be live-streamed on our Jefferson County North YouTube Channel.

The JCNHS Scholars Bowl team placed 2nd at the Perry-Lecompton meet on January 19th. After some difficult pool play our team was placed at the bottom of the bracket only to win round after round until the final round earning the second place win. Congrats all that participated!

Our first book reading was today, 13 seniors came and listened to Mrs. Courtney read Pretend She’s Here by Luanne Rice. We had hot chocolate, brownies, and snack mix and a great discussion afterward. We are meeting again tomorrow during first seminar for another chapter!

On January 13th the JCNHS Scholars Bowl team took home 3rd place at the Pleasant Ridge meet. We are definitely proud of what they accomplished! Good job everyone.

Update on Superintendent's Search. The special meetings for January 20 and 21 have been cancelled. The special meetings (executive session) for interviews will be held Monday, January 24 and Tuesday, January 25. The community meet and greet will be held each of these two days from 3:45 - 4:30 p.m.

Superintendent Search, Meet and Greet, JCN District Office, 3:45-4:30 The Jefferson County North Board of Education will begin interviewing this week for a new superintendent, replacing Denise Jennings as she retires on June 30, 2022. Each candidate will participate in tours, meet & greet, and a formal (executive session) interview with the JCN Board of Education members. We will announce each candidate the day of his/her interview on our website the morning of the scheduled interview. During the interview process, school personnel and community members will have an opportunity to stop in for a quick meet and greet from 3:45-4:30 at the District Office in Winchester. Interviews will be scheduled following a Special Board meeting on Wednesday, January 19th. Possible interviews will take place weekdays, January 20th - 26th.
