Mrs. Gaschen's class finished their self-portraits today. We read Hooray for You! A Celebration of "You-ness"
Today in the library 5th-8th were excited for new books! These books were purchased with Scholastic Book Fair Dollars. We also accept gently used book donations in the library. Mrs.Courtney has a goal by the end of this year to create a new area for the middle school students-new, updated books and we would like some fun seating for the kids. If you can help please contact Jennifer Courtney.

MS Band Parents:
As you may know by now, there will be a 7-12th grade Fall Band Concert on Monday, Oct 9th @ JCN HS in Winchester. Kids need to be at the high school wearing their concert black attire with their instruments and music by 6:30pm. The concert will start at 7:00pm and should not last longer than an hour so I encourage everyone to stay for the whole concert and support our music community.
The kids will be taken from the EMS to the HS during the school day for rehearsal from roughly 8am to 11am. Please help your kids make arrangements as needed to have their concert black attire for the concert if they don't have much time to make it home before the call time.
After the concert, I ask that you take the kids home with their instruments. If there is no way to transport their instruments home, we will have a trailer available for large instruments to be taken back to the EMS after the concert.

After reading Hooray for You! By Marianne Richmond the second graders worked on self-portraits celebrating "You-ness".
What is "You-ness" you ask? It's your style of being, your rhythm or vibe. The grand sum of you that sets you apart and makes you unique.
Due to the 7-12 Fall Music Concert this evening, the October Board Meeting will start at 5:00 p.m.
The Junior class had started their fall fundraiser and your involvement is needed more than ever! We would love to make this our only product fundraiser this year, which is possible with your help! We are raising $2,000 for prom and our senior trip.
Find your favorite Junior and ask them how to order!
The NEKL (NorthEast Kansas League) has expanded to include Riverside and Troy. Our league, starting next year, will have 11 schools. We are excited about including our neighboring schools. The press release is in the images.
Football Districts were assigned this week by KSHSAA. In 24-25 and 25-26 JCN will be in a 6-team 2A football district with the following schools: Pleasant Ridge, Jackson Heights, McLouth, Onaga, Valley Falls. These district assignments begin next year.
This week is National 4-H week. Some of our JCN 4-H members brought in some projects to display in the library. We read a book about going to a county fair then looked at the projects. Thank you for sharing your projects with us!
It's October now folks, which means that we are only 2 short weeks away from the end of our Boo Gram sales! Yesterday, our Middle School Cross Country team traveled to Jackson Heights for the final meet of the season, NEKL. While it was warm and windy, the kids ran well. Individual medalists were Rowan Robey (4), Lucy Noll (6), Tucker Edmonds (2), and Mathias Domann (6). The girls team were also League Runners-up, bringing home team medals, and the boys team were NEKL Champions, bringing home medals and a plaque. Congratulations to both teams on a very successful season. A thank you to all parents and teachers who supported these kids and made this season a success, it would not have been possible without you.
On Saturday, the JCN High School Cross Country team traveled to Centralia Lake for a meet. While it was warm and windy, several PR's were set, and the kids competed well. Individual medalists include Bailey Jenkins (15), Ivy Fujibayashi (25), Lucas Meredith (3), Isaac Kane (4), Lane Edmonds (15), and Max Kane (22). The boys team also placed 2nd in the meet, narrowly beating out a tough Axtell team and losing to a strong Nemaha Central group. Overall, a good day for a meet with plenty of medals to go around.
PARENTS: The EMS bus that transports to the Cummins area will not leave the EMS until 4 p.m. or a little later!
