In this ever changing COVID time period, we will be moving to less restrictive plans for athletic events starting tonight. Please see "News" on our website for further information regarding the next week of games. We will be easing into (and also continually evaluating) to ensure we are able to provide social distancing as expected, while helping get the community back to participation. Mask wearing remains an expectation at KSHSAA events. Thank you!
Snow packed highways and county roads can still use attention. Today, will be a snow day at JCN.
The physics students are starting a unit on momentum, and what better way than to do our Egg Drop project. They get two sheets of paper and 1 meter of masking tape. They are to design a device that will protect the egg from the impact resulting from a drop from one, then two, then three, then four meters. The ultimate goal is to have the egg survive from the top of the high school gym (about 9 meters). So far this year, four of them have survived the first four falls and are ready to go to the top! A variety of designs have been attempted, and here are a couple of pictures of the process…and the results.
Here are a few videos and pictures of what they have done.

We will be in session today, Tuesday, January 26. Roads are snow covered but passable. Use caution on highways, there are some patchy snow packed spots. We can do this! Be safe and learn well, students.

Good afternoon, this is Denise Jennings with your local weather update here in JCN country: Yes, there is sleet and slush on the roads but the forecast for drop in temperatures is not until later this afternoon. So, we are staying the course. We will be in school the rest of the afternoon. I have been on the roads the past hour and they are actually getting better instead of worse with salt treatment taking place on highways. I am cancelling all after school activities. Our buses and students will pull out of the parking lots promptly at 3:20. That will be a 5-10 minute lead time from normal.
Again, we are staying in school (sorry students!). We will have all students leaving the parking lot at 3:20. All evening activities are cancelled.
Have a good evening and be safe.
For those of you watching the news for school closings, give up. Wake the kiddos! We are going to school today. Roads, parking lots, windshields are just wet. Temperatures are supposed to remain above 32 degrees. I will continue to monitor snow accumulation and roads today. Be safe.
In chemistry, the students created supersaturated solutions of Sodium acetate trihydrate the other day. After letting the solutions cool down overnight, they performed a few different “treatments”; either pouring the solution onto a plate, dropping a seed crystal into the flask, or even writing with the solution. The results were pretty dramatic….and pretty neat!
